Pebi is a desktop lighting device developed for furniture company Haworth, aiming to tackle workplace health issues by encouraging staff to have more physical activity and less sedentary time. Pebi communicates with user's mobile device and collects information of user's sedentary status.
Here is an example of using Pebi in the office.
Pebi is like a pet living on your desktop, in order to keep it "alive", user will need to maintain a certain level of physical activity through out the day, let it be a walk or a break. According to user's sedentary status, Pebi changes it color and brightness level.
If the user remains healthy and active, Pebi stays in a nice soft glow. But if the user is inactive for too long, Pebi will gets a bit sad and grumpy. It will start to emit a redder and darker glow to remind the user to have a walk and take a break. Once the user take action to stop being sedantory, Pebi’s health will be improved, the color and glow of it will be restored to its healthy color.
If the user continues to neglect Pebi for too long, it eventually will flashes and vibrates, showing signs of death. The goal for the user is to keep Pebi alive for as long as possible. Pebi can stay alive for weeks or even months long if user maintain a healthy physical activity level.
Below is a mock up app for user to check on their Pebi's status. They can also compare their Pebi's life to other Pebi's. Pebi acts as a motivation tool for user to stay active in the office. UX and UI are both heavily considered while designing the experience of using Pebi.
